Lucky Grace and Charm Review
Pragmatic Play, Luck, Grace, and Charm Mega Hold & Spin is a Norse-themed slot from Reel Kingdom's partner studio. This five-reel, ten-payline slot follows three female warriors as they hack and slash their way through free spins with multipliers and a Mega Hold & Win feature on their way to potential glory.
You get the impression that the three ladies, Lucky, Grace, and Charm, have been left at home too many times while the menfolk go off to plunder and want a piece of the action. On a mobile device, landscape mode is arguably the most atmospheric way to play Lucky, Grace, and Charm, as the three warrioresses are displayed at the top of the screen while Viking Longships bob menacingly in the lower quadrant. In all cases, an extraordinarily upbeat Celtic tune plays in the background; if anything, it's a little too jaunty in comparison to the visuals, particularly during bonus rounds, but it's upbeat, so it's difficult to complain too much.
Any device is compatible with Lucky, Grace & Charm, with bets ranging from 10 cents to 250 per spin. Reel Kingdom is rated 5 out of 5 on Pragmatic Play's lightning bolt volatility meter, so proceed with caution around these ladies. The RTP is quite good at 96.71 percent, at least in its default configuration, so be cautious about lower RTP settings before casting off.
Lucky, Grace & Charm is an older-style hold & win game with simple base game rules. The first is triggering a payout by landing winning combinations of three or more of a kind across the game's ten fixed paylines. The low-value symbols are runic-styled 10-A card symbols, while the mid-value symbols are bunnies and necklaces.
While bunnies may appear out of place, did you know that hares are moon symbols and are thus totem animals for the goddesses Hecate, Freyja, and Holda? It becomes even more arcane as you descend further down the 'rabbit hole.' The goddess most closely associated with hares is Eostre, the Germanic dawn goddess, who was honored during Ostarmanod, or 'Easter Month' – a precursor to the modern Easter celebration. This means that bunnies and Easter have a deeper connection than simply being cute little creatures hiding chocolate eggs around the house for children to find.
Returning to the high-value symbols, the three game's heroines are worth between 40 and 75 times the stake when five of a kind. When lines of 2-5 land, wilds are worth between 1 and 900x the bet, and they also substitute for all other symbols. When a wild symbol is included in a winning combination, the payout is multiplied by x2.
Lucky, Grace, and Charm Features
While Lucky, Grace & Charm does include a Hold & Spin feature, it also includes a round of free spins with a fixed multiplier to boost winnings. Three bonus symbols anywhere on the reels activates the free spins bonus game, which begins with 12 spins. Line wins are multiplied by x3 or x6 during this feature if they include a wild symbol. When three or more symbols appear, the round is re-triggered, awarding 12 additional free spins with no cap.
Landing five or more money symbols on the reels during the base game or free spins activates the Mega Hold & Spin Bonus Game. The game begins with four respins, which are automatically reset whenever a new money symbol lands and locks in place. When the grid is completely filled, two additional empty rows are unlocked, up to a maximum of twenty. Gold stars may also appear in addition to money symbols, multiplying the current total win by x2, x3, x4, x5, or x10. When stars land, they do not become locked into the reels.
Lucky, Grace, and Charm Conclusion
While a Norse-themed hold & win game may not sound particularly novel, there are some advantages to Lucky, Grace & Charm. For one thing, it's one of Reel Kingdom's more visually appealing games, featuring the team's trademark semi-realistic graphics, and it helps that the game's focal point is three feisty maidens. On a more subdued note, it's a fairly progressive choice to cast an all-female Viking cast in place of beardy, barrel-chested warriors swinging battle axes at one another.
Reel Kingdom has previously borrowed ideas, and Lucky, Grace & Charm bears a strong resemblance to Novomatic's Lucky Lady's Charm, with its x3 multiplier during free spins and x2 wild modifier. The name is identical, as are the symbol values. At Reel Kingdom, someone must be a fan. They've avoided a total rip-off of Lucky, Grace & Charm by including the Mega Hold & Spin feature, which isn't mega in the way that studios like Nolimit City or Relax Gaming define it.
However, proponents of these types of bonus games occasionally experience small bursts of innovation. When multiplying stars appear, they are always a bonus, and the way the grid collapses to reveal additional spaces when filled is relatively uncommon. Grid expansion was also fairly prevalent throughout the review, so it's not like it's a feature that you never see. Even then, the results were not astounding, but that is not to say Lucky, Grace & Charm is incapable of doing so. Take the game on a mega run, and theoretically, wins of up to 10,000x the bet are possible.
While none of the components are novel, Reel Kingdom has combined them in a way that should keep players entertained during the traditional Hold & Win features. And, hey, had Reel Kingdom not made bunnies so prominent, we might not have discovered an older interpretation of Easter.
